The City is looking for your feedback on two concepts for new play equipment in Parthia Park in Nepean. The existing junior play structure and equipment have surpassed their intended service life. The play equipment must be replaced to meet current safety and Accessibility standards. Other park amenities will be untouched. Construction is expected in summer of 2024. Two detailed concept designs have been created and can be downloaded as PFDs under the Concepts tab.

Option A features a playhouse structure targeted at ages 18 month to 5 years and a climbing and overhead spinning structure designed for older children. A sand box with transfer bench is also provide in this design. The option is illustrated with an inclusive harness swing

Option B features a traditional play structure for ages 18 months to 5 Years, with a rock wall targeted at older children. The option is illustrated with an accessible saucer seat.

Please be aware that the final park plan may differ from either of the two designs being presented as a result of suggestions received through public consultation process, technical detailing, and supply or financial constraints. After reviewing the design options please be sure to complete the poll below indicating your family’s preferred option.

November 6th, 2023, project update:

The public consultation period for Parthia Park play structure replacement is now complete. The city thanks everyone who took the time to review the materials and complete the survey.

Results:

• 24 people responded to the survey

• A strong majority of 16/24 people indicated their preference for play structure Option B). An additional 3 people indicated that both play structure options were acceptable.

• Email correspondence on the proposal was also received indicating a preference for Option B play structure with a preference for Option A swing. Additionally, it was requested that some of the existing play amenities be retained in the park- namely the tunnel, seesaw and monkey bars.

Unfortunately, all of the existing play amenities need to be removed in order to meet current City Park accessibility standards. Staff will investigate if budget and space allow us to accommodate the request for the swings of Option A within the Option B play structure design.

Construction is anticipated in the Summer of 2024. Project updates will be posted here as they become available.
