    Historical beach water quality data

Ottawa Public Health has an open-data set of municipal beach water-quality results going back to 2014. However, OPH has been monitoring water quality for decades. Please compile and post the pre-2014 data, which is highly valuable for examining long-term trends in the health of the Ottawa and Rideau rivers.

    Ridership Data

I think it is important for OC Transpo ridership data to be available, and downloadable. It should be made available through an easy to access public portal.

Building permit, housing, and development charge GIS data.

Building permit, housing, and development charge GIS data.

I would like to see a GIS dataset of building permits issued to new developments, the number of residential units, commercial/industrial square footage, and the amount paid to the city in Development Charges. Also, if possible, start and completion dates. Historical records going back as far as possible would be amazing.

    City council voting record data

Since 2008 Toronto has made city council voting data publicly available in a spreadsheet format. Several other cities have followed suit including Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg, Brampton, Calgary and Edmonton. Some, like Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria share the data with interactive web dashboards. Toronto: https://secure.toronto.ca/council/#/openData Calgary: https://data.calgary.ca/Government/Council-Meetings-Voting-Record-Current-Council-Oct/m6sn-2uhw Vancouver: https://vancouver.ca/your-government/council-voting-dashboard.aspx Victoria: https://opendata.victoria.ca/pages/mayor-and-council Currently Ottawa, like many other cities in Canada, has video recordings of past city council meetings. This is an important resource, but at the same time it is also an inaccessible one. It is a major time investment for residents to sort through hours of footage to see how their city councilors vote on any given issue. For the average person the time investment is prohibitive. It is critical that residents of the city have easy access to city council voting data to both stay informed and uphold transparency.

    Ottawa Building Permits Map

    Ottawa Building Permits Map

Just when you thought the real estate industry had all the data, building permits can tell a different story. Our new tool helps you visualize valuable insights into real estate trends, property development, and business opportunities. Here’s how they can be leveraged: 1. Market & Development Trends • Identify High-Growth Areas – Track new construction and major renovations to spot neighbourhoods with increasing demand. • Assess Housing Supply & Demand – Monitor permits for new residential builds to understand upcoming inventory and market saturation. • Gauge Property Value Growth – Frequent permits for high-end renovations can indicate areas where property values are rising. 2. Investment & Development Strategy • Find Underserved Markets – A lack of permits in a certain area could signal unmet demand for new housing or commercial development. • Spot Commercial Expansion Zones – Large-scale permits for office, retail, or mixed-use buildings can reveal where businesses are investing. • Analyze Competitor Activity – Understanding where other developers are building can help refine site selection and project positioning. 3. Due Diligence & Risk Management • Detect Red Flags on Properties – Properties with extensive structural or flood-related permits may indicate hidden risks. • Ensure Regulatory Compliance – Verify if past work was properly permitted before acquiring a property for redevelopment. • Understand Zoning & Land Use Changes – Permit trends can indicate upcoming zoning shifts that may impact future projects. 4. Municipal & Infrastructure Insights • Anticipate Infrastructure Upgrades – Permits for roads, utilities, and public projects suggest areas poised for future growth. • Align with City Development Plans – Tracking municipal permits helps developers align projects with government priorities and funding. The Suspected Drug Overdose Deaths in Ottawa Tracking Tool/Dashboard

The Suspected Drug Overdose Deaths in Ottawa Tracking Tool/Dashboard

This dynamic, self-serve dashboard provides users with the ability to explore and analyze trends in suspected drug overdose deaths occurring in Ottawa. This is particularly important in light of the ongoing challenges our city (and many other Canadian cities) face. Link: https://lnkd.in/g6DbPgg2 It is live connected to the Suspected Drug Overdose Deaths in Ottawa dataset, refreshing automatically with the latest data every Tuesday. Built in Power BI, the tool is simple and easy to use with various analytical features that provide individuals of all data literacy levels with the ability to understand trends. I hope that the community, particularly organizations helping to fight the opioid crisis, find this analytical tool helpful. Feel free to contact me via linked in at Yany Siek or yanysasiek@gmail.com if you would like to share your thoughts.

    EarlyON Playgroup Repository

As a parent, it was very complicated for me to figure out which EarlyON playgroup was happening on any given day. So I built a repository of all the EarlyON playgroups so that parents can simply visit the website and find out where the closest playgroups are happening when. You can filter by area, time of day, language and age range: https://claudielarouche.com/earlyon.html I used this as a datasource: https://ottawa.ca/en/family-and-social-services/childrens-services/earlyon
